FOSTER CITY, CA—Gilead Sciences has agreed to donate Truvada (emtricitabine and tenofovir disoproxil fumarate) for pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to support national efforts for preventing HIV. The company will provide the CDC up to 2.4 million bottles of Truvada annually for uninsured Americans at risk for HIV through 2030, making it one of the largest medication donations in the US. If Gilead’s Descovy (emtricitabine and tenofovir alafenamide) is approved by the FDA for PrEP treatment, the donation will transition to supplying that product
